A look-back at this year's Proud of Barnsley Awards' evening: Meet our amazing winners
The Proud of Barnsley celebration night attracted a sell-out crowd of almost 550 people to the Barnsley Metrodome.
In all, 20 awards were handed out, recognising the achievements of volunteers, community groups, charity fundraisers and campaigners from across the borough.
There was also special recognition for local boxer Callum Simpson who received the inaugural Sporting Icon award after winning the British and Commonwealth Super Middleweight title in the summer.

BARNSLEY College has launched a new programme designed to inspire students with entrepreneurial ambitions.
The ‘Futurepreneurs’ scheme provides students with the opportunity to access a business launch grant, hands-on support and tailored challenges to help them develop their skills and turn their business ideas into a reality.

Oldest runner Bert beats Storm Bert to win prize
BARNSLEY club runners took prizes at the Doncaster City 10k.
Despite Storm Bert and the heavy rain, 2,712 competed in the race, which starts and finishes at Doncaster Racecourse.
Darfield man Bert Beaumont was the oldest competitor in the race and finished 1,652nd in a time of 58-31 which put him first out of five over75s.

Fewer new businesses setting up in town
LAST year saw the fewest new businesses created in Barnsley since local records began, the latest figures have revealed.
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, around 865 new businesses opened in Barnsley in 2023, down from 960 a year earlier.
Meanwhile, 875 businesses closed in the area last year, down from 975 in 2022.
This means the total number of businesses in Barnsley fell slightly last year.

Craig twins set for possible Oakwell meeting
Matty Craig is looking forward to potentially facing his identical twin brother when Barnsley host Reading tomorrow from 7.45pm.
